Our vision

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics – in short STEM – can be used to explain and shape many aspects and facets of the world we live in. In view of key challenges such as decarbonization, digitalisation, demography and democracy, STEM education is one of the most important levers for science, business, politics and society. With our zdi.NRW community intiative, we are making a contribution to mastering these challenges.

Our mission

  • We inspire young people throughout their educational journeys with attractive offers for STEM.
  • We reach you pleople by placing STEM in real-life contexts and including other perspectives (STEMplus).
  • We promote networks with partners from science, business, schools, universities, politics and society and create a bridge between in-school and out-of-school stakeholders.
  • We translate current findings from science and (cutting-edge) research and make them available so that they become the basis for (critical) thinking and knowledge transformation.
  • We support in-depth career and study orientation in the zdi-BSO-MINT programme.
  • We strengthen NRW as a business and employment location by helping to ensure that more young people are interested in studying or doing an apprenticeship in the STEM field and that companies have access to talented young STEM specialists.
  • With the state funds deployed, we activate a multiple of private and public resources locally.
  • We particularly support girls and young women in the STEM sector.
  • We are leading the way by constantly developing and opening up new target groups and subject areas.
