European leader in extracurricular STEM education:

Strong structures for STEM experiences. The zdi community offensive has several thousand partners and is therefore still the largest and most successful initiative of its kind in Europe. Participation and responsibility for the decentralized zdi networks due to regional actors, partners: inside out Universities, Schools, Economy and Politics has proven to be a key success factor for extracurricular STEM education.

zdi is represented nationwide with STEM contact points in the state: be it the regional zdi networks, which offer young people throughout NRW extracurricular STEM educational offers, or the zdi student laboratories, i.e. extracurricular learning locations with a high-quality STEM laboratory offer. There are also numerous other institutions that implement zdi activities, such as learning workshops at primary schools or extracurricular learning locations at research institutions and companies, such as B. FabLabs. Mobile laboratories are also part of the zdi offer in many regions.

zdi is supported at state level by several ministries (science, schools and business); the Ministry of Science is in charge.

The zdi regional office supports the networks and student laboratories in their work and coordinates the allocation of Grants.

In all districts and urban districts of the state, the zdi state office implements measures for in-depth career and study orientation in the STEM field with funds from the MKW and the NRW regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency.
