The summer holidays at the zdi network in Düsseldorf – discover the future digitally and creatively

Bee deaths, rural exodus or environmental pollution - 15 third and fourth grade students are addressing these and other challenges of the future at the "Life in the Future" holiday workshop. From 12th to 17th July 2020 is all about the question of what the future will look like and what the students can expect. The workshop is organized by the zdi network MINT Düsseldorf in cooperation with the HABA Digitalwerkstatt during the summer holidays.

The Heinrich Hertz Vocational College in Düsseldorf Bilk. It's the summer holidays and the boxy 50s building looks empty and deserted. Appearances are deceptive, because inside almost 100 students are busy working on their favorite topics related to mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. They program robots, construct their own designs for the 3D printer or deal with important topics such as sustainability. Throughout the summer holidays, the zdi network MINT Düsseldorf offers exciting MINT holiday courses for schoolchildren from the region in the rooms of the Heinrich Hertz vocational college. 

At the zdi holiday course “Life in the Future”, the young STEM students are introduced to the central topics of the future in a playful way for a week. From robotics and artificial intelligence to mobility and urbanization to renewable energies - the course instructors Lina Schnieders and Yannika Böcker from the HABA Digitalwerkstatt strive to address as many facets of the world of tomorrow as possible and to prepare the students at a young age for the present and future raise awareness of future problems. What can a future worth living look like? Why is climate protection so important for a future to look forward to? And why is STEM know-how required to be able to deal with the challenges of the future? The participants of the workshop pursue these and more questions.

The zdi network MINT Düsseldorf is offering a total of 2020 holiday courses during the 44 summer holidays. Every day at the Heinrich Hertz Vocational College, where the holiday workshops are held, between eighty and one hundred students of all ages try their hand at their favorite MINT topics. In total, several hundred interested students can be inspired for the subjects mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology during the entire summer holidays. As always, the summer holiday courses are free of charge.
